Booktour by Turn the Page Tours: The Story Of Babushka by Catherine Flores

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog! So the book of today is *cues in drumrolls* TADAAA, it's a children book! I feel really pleased after reading this. Without a further ado, let's get on it.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Story of Babushka is a very beautiful story to be shared with your little ones (if you are a parent or soon-to-be ). It comes along with very lovely illustrations – perfect to snag your little ones’ attention. I think not only children can enjoy this story but grown-ups too. I had fun knowing about Babushka dolls though it’s my first time hearing about them. Glad I stumbled upon this book. Thank you to Turn The Page Tours for making this possible. First, let’s find out what’s a Babushka doll because I'm sure some of you probably don't know what it is.

Babushka doll is a traditional Russian toy which symbolises Russian folk culture, as well as the complex and beautiful layers of women. Each Babushka is comprised of many round dolls, each a little smaller than the last. They separate at the middle so that each doll can be placed inside the one before in. You can find out more details about them by clicking here.

This story follows a very special Babushka doll with her other five bodies. Each body has a name and a role. The first, outermost body is named Antonia, the body of beauty. Second is Loretta, the body of wealth. Third is Paula, the body that held all the talents. Fourth is Viola, the body of wisdom. The last body, the smallest of all, is named Mary, she represents Babushka’s heart and the embodiment of love. They have been living happily as in one body until several obstacles have crossed their path. These predicaments have resorted them to get separated from each other, venturing and wandering through their adventure respectively.

I love how this story serves as a mirror to our life, reflecting our woes into a tale. There are people who are rich but their hearts are always put at unease. There are people who are hardworking but they don’t realise they are actually deteriorating their physical and mental health. Beautiful appearance doesn’t last forever but the heart does. But the heart also, cannot stay happy if you don’t have the capability to do what do you love. In short, one of the lessons that can be extracted from here is that we need to find balance in those five elements (beauty, wealth, talent, wisdom, love) and unite them all into one – within us, so that we are able to live our life to the fullest.

All in all, the story of Babushka is a really good story for children. I’ll buy this book for my niece once she’s at the passable age for reading (or I story tell to her, if she has ever stayed calm) Now, she’s just 2 years old and last Saturday marked her born-day! I just began buying her some illustrated books especially cats since she really loves cats! But cats often get scared by her haha.
